Betty Carter

This week, we'll be taking a listen to one of the most dynamic female Jazz vocalists of all time in our artist spotlight.

Betty Carter's voice was truly special, and she used her range and creative intellect to craft one of Jazz's most beloved sounds.  Her legendary talent for improvisation made her part of the band, using her keen scatting abilities to sound like an other-worldly instrument on stage. She was a pure Jazz singer, with an ability to interperet bop melodies in ways that surprised and delighted fans around the world.  Fiercly independent, Carter refused to make music on anyone's terms but her own.
