Michael Brecker

Michaelbrecker03-2

Saxophonist Michael Brecker's sound was steeped in the tradition of the great Jazz tenor players players before him, and shaped by the Jazz fusion scene of the 1970's.

Brecker's sound was marked by his highly technical abilities and by his soulful tone.  Known mostly as a studio player for the first years of his career, he made a name for himself playing with his brother Randy in the "Brecker Brothers" large ensembles.  It wasn't until the late 80's that Michael Brecker produced his first album as a leader - leading to a string of fantastic albums that are cherished by Jazz fans around the world.

Unfortunately, Brecker was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in his early 50's, and he passed away at the young age of 57.  Fortunately, he left behind so many wonderful recordings that allow us to enjoy his wonderful work to this day!
