Wynton Kelly
Pianist Wynton Kelly's storied career as both a leader and as a sideman made him one of the more popular "obscure" players in Jazz history.
His brief life (Kelly only lived to age 40) and his prolific career (he was recorded on more than 100 records) were punctuated by many moments of pure genius. He was a favorite accompanist of many legendary horn players including John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Cannonball Adderley, Dizzy Gillespie, Wayne Shorter, and Lee Morgan.
We'll be taking a listen to the many styles and recordings of Wynton Kelly all this week in our Artist Spotlight at KMHD!
